History
Collette and Ian met in 1999 while studying horticulture at Algonquin college.
It was truly fate, and the two haven't tried to fight it eversince.
Collette grew up moving around the vast provinces and territories of Canada.
It was up north in the Yukon, that she spent most of her formative years,
and here where she gained an appreciation for the intricacies of nature.
City life soon became the norm and Ottawa, Ontario made a more permanent home.
In 1999 Collette completed a Batchelor of Science Degree in Environmental
Science at the University of Guelph. With an ever-growing interest and
passion for plants, in 2001 she obtained a diploma in Horticulture and
Landscaping, at Algonquin College.
Ian spent his young life in the greater Toronto area and then moved to
Ottawa for a more relaxed pace. It is there that he spent his early
career in the high tech industry. Looking for direction, Ian then
traveled back to his roots in the UK. Upon his return to Canada, Ian
discovered his interest in nature and a talent for design. In 2001,
Ian too obtained a diploma in Horticulture and Landscaping at Algonquin College.
Throughout their studies together, Collette and Ian started and ran a partnership
in landscaping and design. They also managed to travel to the east and west
coasts of Canada with the prospect of further adventure.
In early 2003, the two packed up all their belongings and, in two vehicles,
moved to Vancouver Island. Since then, there has been no looking back and the
farm was made home in September 2003.
What was going to be a place to literally watch their dreams (ie. plants) grow,
the farm is now ideally set up to breed and raise alpacas. (How did this happen???!)
Our love of plants came from our overall respect for the environment; we strive
to use environmentally sound practices whenever possible. We also enjoy the freedom
of working from home and a quiet country lifestyle. Alpacas are the perfect fit.
